I am not sure that the Visitor/Resident Theory is the best way in which to view how individuals utilize the Internet, as it is a rigid categorization based on subjective ideals. The Internet is a fluid place that is constantly in change, so categorizing a person based on what social media tools they use the Internet is not helpful. It also creates an "us vs. them" dynamic" that reeks of elitism and disdain for "Visitors," i.e. "Oh, you don't have a blog? Well, you're just a filthy Visitor, aren't you?" This is a somewhat uncomfortable dynamic to be involved in, even though I would probably be categorized as a Resident, based on how much of my life is spent online.
